Made in Italy

Globally renowned for its attention to luxury standards and fashion heritage, Italy’s fashion and textile industry boasts a value of €7.94 billion, in 2017, which accounted for 15% of the country's total textile and apparel industry revenue. The country is a hub for garment manufacturing and is home to some of the world’s most lavish brands.
With a population of over 60 million and situated in the heart of Europe, Italy borders Switzerland, France, the Vatican City, San Marino and Slovenia. The country is not only recognised for its fashion, but also its rich culture, food, natural sites and its well-known historical landmarks, such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum.
Throughout centuries, fashion has become an integral part of the Italian identity and has woven its way into the cultural life of the society. This fashioned the “Made in Italy” merchandise brand; which has been generally used, since the 80s, to signify the international uniqueness of Italy’s traditional fashion industry as well as their food, furniture and mechanical engineering industries. The world renowned label expresses the excellence, creativity and craftsmanship that Italian manufactured garments are best celebrated for. Italian manufacturers take pride in the quality of their textiles and the sophistication of their garment construction. This high-quality expertise and artistry has been reflected in Italian designs, sharp tailoring and garment production since the 11th century. This has resulted in the country becoming a creative hotbed for technical skill and workmanship; rooted in centuries of culture, beauty and innovation. According to McKinsey, 40% of global luxury production is made under the “Made in Italy” brand inferring that Italy is at the forefront of the global luxury supply chain.
The multi-billion euro textile industry is built on a network of designers, manufactures, retailers and distributors that contribute in making Italy Europe’s fourth-largest economy. Italy’s northern region has a more developed fashion industry with 60% of Italian textile and apparel manufacturers located there.
At Svosva, we manufacture our clothing in the small town of Villanova del Ghebbo, in the northern Italian region of Vento. The region is home to many garment and textile manufacturers whose technical know- how and eye for fashion trends and innovation ensure the best quality garments. Most Italian manufacturers hire their workers locally and promote from within the company. This not only creates jobs to help circulate wealth within those communities but it also continues and enhances the proud tradition of transferring skills to the next generation. This means that their techniques, skills and practices aren’t something that can be easily replicated.
As a brand, quality assurance is a top priority. Our Italian manufacturer understands our vision and our desire to produce clothing of high quality. The durability and longevity of our garments are essential in ensuring that our clothing items can stand the test of time without having to compromise on our product integrity. This also means that our products do not need to be replaced as frequently as garments of lower quality, which contributes to the reduction of clothing waste while also saving our Svosva customers time, money and frustration.
Comfort and fit are two other important components we think about when manufacturing our clothes. We work closely with our manufacturers to achieve a well fitted garment and take a high level of care and attention to detail when designing our clothes. Our fabric choices greatly contribute to the quality of the final products. We take time to pick the best fabric to minimise the chance of our clothes stretching when worn or washed, producing lint balls after washing or even irritating the skin.
The specialisation and expertise of our Italian manufacturer greatly contributed to our company decision to produce our clothes in Italy. As Svosva is based in the UK, manufacturing in Italy lowered our carbon footprint considerably. We are confident that the craftsmanship and innovation of our Italian manufacturer will produce the highest quality garments for our brand and our customer.
